NEC Corporation announced today its successful completion of Phase 1 field trial for Long Term Evolution (LTE), a next generation mobile communications technology, with a Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) Group associate, Globe Telecom Inc, a leading telecommunications company in the Philippines. NEC will continue to provide extensive support for Phase 2 of the LTE field trial towards commercialisation (commercial network).
The Phase 1 field trial verified a variety of LTE functions required for commercial service under field environment, such as quality of service, latency and hand-over within urban mobile environments in Makati and Quezon City. Furthermore, the trial achieved up to 60Mbps downlink data throughput rate at 10MHz bandwidth.
“NEC is honoured to successfully complete the Phase 1 of LTE field trial in cooperation with Globe Telecom,” said Kazuya Hashimoto, general manager of NEC’s Mobile Access Network Division. “We will continue to work closely with the SingTel Group and to further support their LTE business.”
On top of significant accomplishments in Japan, NEC is recognised as a leading international LTE vendor through its selection and participation in LTE trials and commercial deployments in global arena, such as in Europe and Asia as well as Japan. NEC aims to leverage its experience and achievement in this field to drive the success of these trials and to maximise the company’s contributions to the early commercialisation of LTE.
